Breakin the trend. This blog was originally for sketches and traditional work, but now it's just a free-for-all art dump. This is a 3d model of my character named "Agent". I can't wait to model her arch-rival "Nemesis" but for now I have to go through the very boring and technical parts, unwrapping the model, texturing, rigging, skinning. You 3d types who read my blog should know what I'm talking about. :)
The wireframe shows how she was built. Her Low poly model will hold up nicely in a game engine and one turbosmooth modifier turns the model into a cinematic quality model. Lots of technical advantages to working this way.

Well I hope you like her. Hopefully I will have her textured soon. I can't wait to get to the fun part - animation!

15 Minute Drawings at the USAA, Jorge
Great model today. Jorge has excellent definition which makes him fun to draw.
Finally getting used to china marker again. I noticed that when I switched to Conte, i became very very stiff because it's harder to "skate the page". The past few weeks I've been stiff with the china markers too. I re-read some Walt Stanchfield and that Force book by Mike Mattesi to help re-focus.
Keeping a blog has been really helpful for me. You can quickly review what you need to work on and try to fix it.

Watercolor - Jen in June
This is my friend Jen. The photo of this painting was taken with an i-phone. sorry for the blurriness. can't retake it because the original now belongs to her :) The time limit for this painting was 1.5 hours.
Thanks for posing, Jen! Thanks for convincing her to pose, Jay!

Watercolor Sketchbook - Plein Air at Bouldin Creek Cafe
Sat outside the cafe and had a blissfully good time painting this while chatting with my BFF husband Stephen and my BFF Jay.

Characters and Spanish
I'm learning Spanish. I'm doing it on my own with books, flashcards, and other gimmicks. It's kind of difficult to make it fun, so I decided to multitask learning Spanish and practicing cartooning. I have a box of flashcards of Spanish vocabulary. I pick adjectives and draw a character I imagine from that word. Here are some drawings I drew from various adjectives.
Wise - Sabio/Sabia
Bold - Audaz
Clever - Astuto/Astuta
Heavy - Pesado/Pesada
Dont know which adjective this last guy came from, but the influx of office worker drawings is because my husband is working on a comedic animated 3d short based in an office building and needs a hand designing characters. He probably wont use these exactly, but use them as jumping points for his own designs and style.
I really should do these cartooning exercises more often. Drawing from imagination is very very very difficult for me and I absolutely salute those who can do it with ease. Having a word just as a starting point makes the job all that much easier than starting with nothing.

ps these were done with graphite, a medium that I am trying not to hate. I hate how shiny it is, how it smears, how it never goes to black but stays gray. ugh, I hate it.

San Antonio Zoo / Toy Studies / Nature Documentary Drawing
From the San Antonio Zoo...
In preparation for drawing moving zoo animals, I studied toy animals. These are from imagination using a toy as reference...
Also wanted to see various realistic poses, so I drew these while watching Planet Earth...
Animals are so fascinating and I like spending time with them and learning about them. I am continually in awe of how they are so naked against the world and still carve out a life for themselves. That is a power we understand little of, now that we've been so removed from nature.
I hope to have more animal-related posts :) I'm hoping that all this studying will lead to a strong enough understanding to do awesome character designs!
