Why are my gesture drawings nice and fluid and my longer poses so dang stiff-feeling?? (especially the 2nd drawing). I mean, I know the model isn't being as dynamic, but still, shouldn't I be able to make her less robotic-looking? If you have any tips, please help!!Tiffanny

My only guess would maybe be the time difference. Perhaps, since you have less time in your gestures you're less focus on the detail work on making it look like the person and more focus on poses...?
Your gestures look flippin' amazing! Makes me want to draw now
-Gomero- ;)
Thanks Gomero :) so sweet!
Tiffany, thanks for stopping by my blog.
To answer your question, your gesture drawings focus on big sweeping ideas, and your longer poses are getting caught up with anatomy.
My suggestion is that your shadow shapes and your anatomy should all support your gesture, not fight it. Even if that means you need to subordinate your anatomy to your gesture. Bend it, twist it, but make it support the big sweeping ideas you have in your gestures.
A small suggestion for your gestures, try drawing the hands and feet as part of the limb. Don't lift your pencil to add a foot or a hand. At least one side of the hand or foot (the stretch side) should all be part of the same line as the rest of the limb.
I'm glad that you're figure drawing, it's so vital to good draftsmanship. Keep it up.
Marcelo,
Thanks for your suggestions. They will be followed. I hope my next session will yield better drawings!

Thanks for your comment! You have some lovely watercolors.
thanks scoopy! your blog is adorable. glad you like my watercolors :)
Dear Tiffanny,
I have the same tendency you have. So, I try to make life drawings as quick as possible, even though have 20 minutes. When you come to my blog, look up the "Gallery" and life drawings. Simplified/selected info, dynamic movements and emphasized values--are what I want to achieve. You're a so hard worker that impresses me. Let us learn together.
Kind regards, Sadami
