I rarely paint from photos, most of the time preferring to do paintings from life. But once in a while you come across such a beautiful photo, you have to make an exception. This is an American Tourist in Brussels in the 60's. I like the fact that I painted from a vintage and faded photo, because you can use more of your imagination with the colors.

What a beautiful work. I love the colors!
Beautiful. -and a very interesting composition, reminds me of Dega's paintings where he would deliberately lead your eye off the canvas and then defiantly pull you back in by the clever placement of people and objects. In this shot everyone is facing away from the picture plane, but the woman in the foreground glances back over her shoulder toward us, bringing the viewer back in. Should I thank you for the composition, or the dead photographer? HA!
Ted, definitely thank the photographer. I suck at composition :)
And the photographer, like the subject, is still very much alive...
Geeeeezzeee.. I wish my watercoloring skills is up to par with this!
This is wonderful. One of my watercolor heroes also rarely painted from photos, but used black and white print outs if he needed the reference because he didn't want his color choices to be overly influenced. Great scene and great feel.
Thanks all :) I'm really happy you guys like it. It encourages me to do more. :)
Peace!!!
