Illustration Friday - Bee-ber Swarm

OK, I'm now on the Illustration Friday bandwagon. I go to these Children's Book Illustration meetings, and everyone and their mothers do these. Well, I guess I have to act like a real illustrator and do what they do. :) This is my first one. The word is "Swarm" I kept trying to think of a clever and funny way to illustrate this, like my friend Ted Blackman did, but all I could come up with was Justin Bieber in a Bee costume being swarmed by little girls. Did you at least chuckle?? I hope you did.

Here are the pencils for the illustration. I think I like pencils more than the final. That always happens to me. Something gets lost in translation, no? Sometimes inked lines get robotic, whereas pencils still show the artist's hand in it. Maybe I just need to learn to be more expressive with ink :)
Until next time,
please keep visiting me :)

I'm beginning to think you're as speedy as your sped-up video tutorials. You are a prolific artist! and I chuckled at that.

I only know the Beeb from his American Idol appearance, but I know the little girls definitely 'swarm' to him. He is a him, right? Oh yeah, I'm a closet AI person, got hooked about 6 seasons ago.

So, we are both Illustration Friday newbies and the gauntlet has been thrown, I see. hee hee.

Thanks for the chuckles, Joane and Ted :)

I'm pretty sure Beeb is a guy considering his name Justin. I've only ever seen him in a commercial and as a guest on the Daily Show.

And no I'm not speedy, just have a lot of time on my hands, owing to the fact that I dont clean and cook as much as I should :) I recently read Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, and he says that it really does take 10,000 hours to become a master at something. So I've been slogging away at the drawing and painting because I want my 10,000 hours pronto!!!!

And yes, I throw the gauntlet! Let the bloodbath begin!

HAHAHA! Oh, that is clever! I must say, I prefer your rendition of him. Oh how the young girls do swarm. It's a mystery.
